Here in Tanzania, YCI is celcbrating International Women’s Day in three locations: Morogoro, Zanzibar, and in Dar-es-Salaam. It’s the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and we thought it warranted a celebration across all our project locations!
In honour of women’s day, YCI hosted a discussion involving 35 young women in Chamwino to discuss two topics: “why are most women unemployed or underemployed?” And, “why are women perceived as pleasure tools and not being listened to or respected?” The debate was lively with an edutainment follow-up the next day to continue the discussion by using dance, rap and song as tools to broaden the reach of the debate.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, YCI held an event featuring presentations by women community leaders on the roles, rights and participation of women in the National Development processes.

YCI, with over 20 other NGOS, participated in the 100 Years Women’s Day Coalition event, marching to Mnazi Mmoja. Following the march, YCI participated in workshops on women’s access to resources, Gender Based Violence, adolescent girl issues and women’s testimonies.
